The flurries have begun, and before long they’ll have become blizzards! We all know how unpredictable our Michigan winters can be, its smart to be safe by preparing your car before the ice and snow are here.
Things to do to your car to prepare for Michigan Weather:
Have your coolant checked – if not good for at least 20 below, it would be good to have it flushed and brought up to that level.
Have all of your fluids checked – especially windshield solvent. Also brake fluid, power steering, & transmission fluid.
Have a bottle of dry gas on hand and add it when your tank runs low.
Make sure your tires have enough tread and check the tire pressure.
Make sure your spare has air & know where your jack is and how to use it.
Have your battery checked for life expectancy.
Make an appointment with a professional before the season gets busy – your wait time will be minimal, & guarantee that your problems will be found before its too late.
Things to have in your car to be prepared for the winter in Michigan:
Extra Boots & Gloves
Extra Set of Warm Clothes
Extra Food & Water, including hard candies
Windshield Washer Fluid
A bag of abrasive material such as sand, salt, or non-clumping litter, which can provide additional traction if a tire gets stuck in snow.
Also, keep the gas tank as full as you can to prevent the gas lines from freezing.
